Seminar on Joint Endeavors on the Belt and Road Initiative Between Afghanistan and China

Kabul, March 27, 2017 - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan hosted today the second seminar on the Belt and Road Initiative which was co-organized by the Center for Strategic Studies and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Kabul with support from the Economic Cooperation Department which serves as the Secretariat for the Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA).
The opening session included the statement by H.E. Hekmat Khalil Karzai, Deputy Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, a keynote speech by H.E. Prof. Mohammad Humayon Qayoumi, Chief Advisor to the President and statements by H.E.YAO Jing, Ambassador of China to Afghanistan and H.E. Omirtay Bitimov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Afghanistan.
The seminar continued with four panels on interconnected development; connectivity; trade and investment; and people-to-people contacts with speakers from China and Afghanistan.
The seminar provided an opportunity to take stock of the progress made under the Belt and Road Initiative, share perspectives on ongoing activities and discuss potential areas of cooperation including between China and Afghanistan under the initiative.
The “Belt & Road Initiative and Afghanistan” is one of the important projects under RECCA which aims to facilitate the development and implementation of joint activities and projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.
