Kuala Lumpur, 11 May,2017 -The first Afghanistan-Malaysia Business Forum was organized by the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on Thursday, May 11, 2017 in Kuala Lumpur in collaboration with the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Malaysian Chamber of Commerce, Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI); and the USAID. High ranking officials from Afghanistan and Malaysia along with around 200 representatives of the private sector and business leaders from both countries participated in the Forum.
The opening session included welcoming remarks by H.E. Atiqullah Atifmal, Afghan Ambassador to Malaysia, key note speeches by H.E. Mohammad Qurban Haqjo, Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industries of Afghanistan and H.E. Datuk Haji Ahmad Bin Haji Maslan, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia as well as remarks by Mr. Khan Jan Alokozai, Acting Chairman of ACCI.
MoU was also signed between the Malaya Chamber of Commerce of Malaysia (MCCM) and ACCI during the opening session.
The forum continued with two plenary sessions on investment opportunities in Afghanistan and Malaysia respectively.
The first plenary session included presentations on Investing in Afghanistan by Deputy Minister Haqjo; Regional Economic Cooperation and Investment Opportunities-Priority Projects under RECCA by Mr. Hassan Soroosh, Acting Director General of the Economic Cooperation Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan; Access to Finance by Mr. Abbas Saameh from the Afghan Central Bank as well as two presentations on Afghan carpets, Gems and Stones by two private sector representatives from Afghanistan.
The second plenary session provided an opportunity for presentations on trade and investment opportunities in Malaysia by representatives from the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, the Malaysian Investment Development Authority as well as a presentation on business experience in Afghanistan.
The forum also included the exhibition of Afghan products, business matchmaking session as well as a cultural event.
Promotion of Business-to-Business (B2B) Partnerships constitutes an important cluster under the Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA) which aims to promote B2B dialogue and partnership in the region and beyond including through convening business forums.
