At a recent National Labor Conference convened jointly by the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the Office of Senior Advisor to the President on Financial and Banking Affairs from April 30 - May 01, 2018 at the Presidential Palace – Kabul, a panel was dedicated to “Regional Economic Cooperation and Jobs”.
The panel was chaired by H.E. Adela Raz, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Cooperation and speakers included Mr. Ajmal Ahmady Senior Advisor to the President on Finance and Banking, Mr. Mohammad Yamma Shams, CEO of the Afghanistan Railway Authority, Mr. Amanullah Ghalib, CEO of the Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat, Mr. Nasrullah Sahebzada, Executive Director of the AAEDC and Mr. Abdul Qadir Habib, youth representative.
The panel examined the role of regional economic cooperation, as defined under the Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan (RECCA), in job creation with a special focus on regional infrastructure projects in areas such as energy and transport. The panelists discussed and provided few ideas and policy options on how to maximize job opportunities associated with Afghanistan-centered regional projects.
Job creation has long been an important cross-cutting issue under the regional economic cooperation agenda of the government of Afghanistan particularly in the framework RECCA and the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process (HoA-IP).
