Canberra – November 07, 2018, The second Friends of RECCA meeting in 2018 was co-organized by the Embassy of Afghanistan and the RECCA Secretariat on November 07, 2018 in Canberra with the participation of ambassadors, diplomats and representatives from the academic centers.
The meeting was opened by H.E. Wahidullah Waissi, Ambassador of Afghanistan to Australia followed by a presentation on RECCA by Mr. Hassan Soroosh, Director General for Economic Cooperation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan.
Ambassador Waissi spoke about the importance of regional trade and connectivity and the ongoing regional economic cooperation efforts centering on Afghanistan particularly those under RECCA and HoA-IP.
Mr. Soroosh briefed the participants about the vision, objectives, priority projects as well as the new approach under RECCA. He explained some of the new initiatives under RECCA including the RECCA Center for Research and Evaluation (RCRE); RECCA Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) and the Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative.
The meeting continued with a discussion on the prospects for future collaboration between RECCA and other regional platforms in the wider Asia and the Pacific region as well as with research and academic centers including those in Australia.
The Friends of RECCA meetings are held in major capitals across the world as opportunities for sharing updates and exploring areas of collaboration and coordination between the ambassadors and diplomats from the RECCA regional and partner countries and organizations with respect to priorities under RECCA.
The first Friends of RECCA meeting in 2018 was held on October 02, 2018 in Vienna.
