Geneva, November 27, 2018, The side meeting on “Afghanistan and Regional Partners: Development Partnership and Regional Cooperation” was held today in Geneva. The meeting was moderated by Mr. Hassan Soroosh, Director General for Economic Cooperation, MoFA and was opened by a keynote speech by H.E. Adela Raz, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Cooperation. Other speakers in the meeting included H.E. Vinay Kumar, Ambassador of India to Afghanistan, H.E. Stanislav Vassilenko, Special Representative of Kazakhstan to Afghanistan; H.E. Zahid Nasrullah Khan, Ambassador of Pakistan to Afghanistan; H.E. Ömür Ünsay, Deputy Director-General for Bilateral Economic Affair, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey; H.E. Jocelyn Mason, UNDP Country Director in Afghanistan; and H.E. Michael Kocher, General Manager for the Aga Khan Foundation, Head Office Geneva.
The meeting discussed the present and future roles of regional partners in Afghanistan both bilaterally as well as in the framework of regional cooperation platforms including under RECCA and HoA-IP. The participants stressed the importance of long-term development partnership between Afghanistan and regional partners and discussed, among other issues, the possibility of developing triangular cooperation frameworks with international partners.
