6 December, 2018, The first day of the Second Expert Group Meeting on the Implementation of the Lapis Lazuli Route Agreement was held today with the participation of officials and experts from Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and Turkmenistan in Herat.
The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan and was opened by H.E. Mohammad Asif Rahimi, Governor of Herat and H.E. Imam Mohammad Worymoch, Deputy Minister of Transport. The opening session also included remarks by the heads of delegations of the member states and representative of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Industries. The meeting was moderated by Mr. Hassan Soroosh, Director General for Economic Cooperation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan.
The meeting continued today with two sessions on the protocol on rail transportation and the operationalization of the agreement. Various presentations were made by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Finance, Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Ministry of Transport and the National Railway Authority.
