Kabul – February 03, 2019 The First RECCA Ambassadorial Coordination Meeting in 2019 and the Inauguration Ceremony of the RECCA Center for Research and Evaluation (RCRE) was held today at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan with the participation of high-level officials from the Afghan government; heads of diplomatic missions in Kabul as well as representatives from major research and academic centers based in Afghanistan.
The event opened by H.E. Salahuddin Rabbani, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Rabbani outlined the importance of regional economic cooperation and integration and underlined the need for continued collective efforts under RECCA including future research collaboration under RCRE.
The meeting continued with an overview of the efforts and progress made in 2018 as well as the priority activities under RECCA in 2019 by H.E. Adela Raz, Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Cooperation; remarks by H.E. Yadgarkhoja Shadmanov, Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Kabul on RECCA VIII to be held in the second half of this year in Tashkent; and remarks by Mr. Napoleon Navarro, UNDP Deputy Country Director in Afghanistan on UNDP’s support to regional cooperation efforts including under RECCA.
The event included the Inauguration of RCRE, the establishment of which was agreed as one of the new initiatives proposed and endorsed at RECCA VII Ministerial Meeting held on November 14-15, 2017 in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan. The RCRE will be based at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan and will work under the supervision of the RECCA Secretariat. Its principal mission is to enhance research capacity and collaboration, as well as to contribute to policy development and investment promotion in the wider RECCA region.
