The First Meeting of Ambassador
Series under the RECCA Center for Research and Evaluation (RCRE) was held today
at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan with H.E. Liu Jinsong,
Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China as the keynote speaker.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, Afghan line ministries and agencies as well as representatives from the chambers of commerce and industries.
Mr. Hassan Soroosh, Director General for Economic Cooperation, MoFA delivered brief opening remarks and spoke about the RCRE and the Ambassador Series as one of the kick-off activities under the Center. He also spoke about the joint regional cooperation efforts by Afghanistan and China including under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and RECCA.
H.E. Ambassador Jinsong delivered a comprehensive presentation on bilateral and regional economic cooperation between Afghanistan and China in particular under the BRI. He outlined key pillars and objectives as well as priority areas under the BRI and presented some examples of cooperation with other countries under the BRI. H.E. the Ambassador stressed the importance of expanded cooperation between the two countries in areas such as trade, infrastructure development, investment promotion as well as education including under the BRI.
The meeting continued with a Q & A session where participants made a number of interventions and asked questions on a range of issues including the issue of synergy among regional cooperation platforms and corridors; infrastructure development; cooperation in the energy sector; initiatives regarding women’s entrepreneurship development as well as scholarships and education opportunities for Afghan students in China.
The RCRE Ambassador Series provides the opportunity for the heads of missions of the RECCA regional and partner countries and organizations in Kabul to share their perspectives regarding bilateral cooperation as well as regional economic cooperation and integration with a special focus on their countries/organizations’ engagements under RECCA and to highlight key opportunities and major challenges in this regard.
