On May 23, 2019, the 4th Trans-Caspian Forum was co-organized in Washington DC by the Caspian Policy Center and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with the embassies of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan and with the participation of high-level officials and experts from the United States and the greater Caspian region including Afghanistan.
H.E. Ambassador Roya Rahmani, Ambassador of Afghanistan along with other ambassadors from the region delivered opening remarks. Ambassador Rahmani, spoke about the ongoing efforts and recent achievements in the areas of regional cooperation, connectivity and private sector development in Afghanistan.
Mr. Hassan Soroosh, Director General for Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan participated as a panelist in session A on the prospects for partnership and Session D on trade and investment. He also spoke in the congressional briefing organized by the Caspian Policy Center on May 22, 2019. In his remarks, he outlined Afghanistan’s vision for regional cooperation, trade and connectivity, the role that Afghanistan is playing in deepening connectivity and expanding trade in the wider Eurasian region as well as major ongoing priority projects under RECCA and HoA-IP.
The importance of Afghanistan’s centrality and engagement for regional and inter-regional cooperation and integration was highlighted by many speakers during the forum.
